Corel Wordperfect SuiteCorel Wordperfect Suite

The new version includes a more recent version of QuickView, a file viewing utility which also comes with Windows 95. The professional suite likewise merely adds a bit more value in terms of free software, such as the Paradox 8 database programme, Web.Sitebuilder 8, a timeline tool.

Somehow the word suite does not fit in much since a series of individual pieces of software, conveniently packaged together. The user interfaces on Quattro Pro, Presentations and WordPerfect have been largely synthesized--a new set of problems has been introduced. In an effort to increase integration between the suite components and with the world wide web, Corel has integrated Netscape Communicator into the suite, with a closely allied personal information manager, named CorelCENTRAL.

CorelCENTRAL has become quite a lot stable with the most recent patch, but its slow and space hungry. There are differences in user interface between CorelCENTRAL and almost everything else in the suite. One can change the preferences for Netscape by hitting Tools | Settings in CorelCENTRAL, but must choose Edit | Preferences in any of the Netscape windows. Perhaps most surprisingly, both CorelCENTRAL's address book and WordPerfect's treat the same data, but use radically different user interfaces. Strangely enough, anyone clicking on the "address" button of an e-mail composition window is given the WordPerfect rather than the CorelCENTRAL interface.
